Pathway
Wastewater alkalinity enhancement
Project type as recorded
Wastewater treatment process intensification with permanent CO2 removal - smart-dosing of calcium carbonate to optimise pH/alkalinity, storing carbon as stable bicarbonate

What happened

Full syndicate - lead: Burnt Island Ventures. New: AP Ventures, Sony Innovation Fund, Builders Vision, Kibo Invest, Idemitsu Ventures, New York Ventures, plus family offices. Existing: Counteract, ANIMO Ventures, Connecticut Innovations, Ponderosa Ventures, Echo River Capital. Blended $19M equity / $6M non-dilutive. CEO Dr Joachim Katchinoff. Validates a low-cost CDR pathway that piggybacks on existing utility infrastructure rather than requiring greenfield capex - one utility reportedly considering deferring $350M of planned capital upgrades post-deployment. Separately won a ~$2.3M Colorado Energy Office Clean Air Program award. Reported ~$32M of offtakes / 72k tonnes contracted.

Kumo note

This funding is supported by the Frontier $32 million offtake contract to remove 71,878 tons of CO2 between 2025 and 2030 and the 23,602 tonne Microsoft offtake.
