What happened

Second financing tranche for a Calgary startup founded in 2025 that makes low-carbon cement by an electrochemical process on limestone, which also separates CO2 from the material. Closing wording: the company "has closed a $10-million USD ($14-million CAD) fundraise". Led by Zacua Ventures, whose Juan Nieto joins the board, with Sandpiper Ventures, Vantage Futures, Amplify Capital and the University of Calgary's UCeed fund. The Mount Rundle Club and Sebastian Becker also invested; both are individuals or syndicates of individuals and take no provider row, so the round is credited across the five named institutional providers. The company claims emission reductions of 30 to 85 per cent against conventional cement, and states its cost target is to be met without carbon-pricing benefits. No round label is given by any source. The fate of the separated CO2, whether stored, used or sold, is not stated.

Kumo note

An electrochemical route to cement that separates CO2 from limestone rather than capturing it from a kiln flue. The company states its cost target is reached without relying on carbon pricing, which is unusual for cement decarbonisation and is the thing a financier should test.
