What happened
- Bregal Sphere acquired a majority stake in PUR Projet (PUR), the French nature-based solutions developer, announced on 6 October 2022 together with a strategic partnership. The 2022 releases (Bregal, Business Wire, PUR) name the investor as Bregal Investments, the private equity platform of COFRA Holding, and describe a planned impact platform; Bregal's 2025-26 responsible investment report records it as a majority investment made by Bregal Sphere. No percentage, price, seller, adviser or closing date is published. Bregal Sphere later announced (19 June 2025) an investment in an expansion of PUR's Jubilación Segura agroforestry project in Peru, run with the cooperatives Acopagro and Oro Verde, to restore more than 5,000 hectares and plant 4.4 million trees over five years, with about 1.3 MtCO2e of removals forecast by 2039. That follow-on has no published amount, instrument or closing wording and is described here rather than recorded as a separate deal; Bregal Sphere secured insurance cover from CFC and was advised by Howden, Norton Rose Fulbright, twentyfifty and AXA Climate.
