What happened

Gitxaala Enterprises Corporation, the economic development arm of the Gitxaala Nation in coastal British Columbia, acquired Carbonzero, a Canadian greenhouse gas accounting and carbon offsetting provider of more than two decades. Closing wording, from Carbonzero's own release: "today announced that it has been acquired by Gitxaala Enterprises Corporation (GECO)". Consideration undisclosed. Carbonzero keeps its name, clients, contracts and services, and Jeff Calvert becomes chief executive. The release describes the result as a "100% First Nations-owned Canadian climate solutions provider".

Kumo note

An Indigenous economic development corporation buying a twenty-year-old carbon accounting and offset retail business outright. Ownership of the measurement and retail layer, rather than of projects, is an unusual route into the market.
