What happened

Meta pre-purchased 6.75 million carbon dioxide removals from Aspiration, to be delivered from 2027 to 2035 from nature-based projects managed by Aspiration, including native reforestation, agroforestry and sustainable agriculture. QCI reports on 9 June 2023 that Meta 'pre-purchased' the removals; carboncredits.com and Footprint Coalition (12 June 2023) say Meta agreed to buy the credits in advance. No value, payment timing or registry is disclosed. The credits are not tied by any source to the Trees for the Future project in western Kenya (DEBT-129).

Kumo note

- A large advance purchase of nature-based removals: 6.75m credits for delivery between 2027 and 2035, written with a seller that is also a financier of carbon projects. - No amount or payment timing is published, so it is recorded as an offtake and not ranked.
