What happened
- Google agreed to buy 50,000 metric tons of nature-based carbon removal credits from Mombak, delivered by 2030, from reforestation of degraded pastureland in the Brazilian Amazon. It described this as its first purchase of forestry-based removal credits (Carbon Credits, Sep 2024, quoting Google's carbon removal lead). No price is published by any source read and none is recorded. Payment timing is not stated, so under the offtake rule it does not rank.
Kumo note
- Google's first forestry-based removal purchase, made in Brazil rather than in a North American or European market, and an early signal that large buyers would contract nature-based removals at scale.
