What happened

One million tonnes CO2e of methane elimination by 2030, stated on a GWP 20 basis, plus one million tonnes of permanent carbon removal by 2040, across more than 200,000 hectares of rice paddy in Rio Grande do Sul. The two streams are generated and verified separately. No prepayment, pre-purchase, advance or milestone payment ahead of delivery is disclosed by either party, so it does not rank. The only money moving now is a research grant to Terradot and to Stanford, which is not consideration for credits. Distinct from the December 2024 agreement for 200,000 tonnes.

Kumo note

The first megatonne scale contract to pair near term methane abatement with durable carbon removal on the same farmland, with the two streams generated and verified separately, and the methane leg stated on a GWP 20 basis rather than the usual GWP 100. No payment is disclosed as moving before delivery.
